Boston Common was founded by Geeta Aiyer at year-end 2002 with key members of the Investment and ESG teams. Directors of the ESG Team, Steven Heim and Lauren Compere, have worked together with Geeta since the mid-1990s. Key members of the Investment team, Geeta Aiyer, Nancy Spady, Matt Zalosh, and Nathan Foley-Mendelssohn have worked together since 2003, the year Boston Common was founded. Praveen Abichandani joined us in 2004. In 2007, we established a west coast office, led by Carol Malnick and Margien Tolson. Our firm fields an experienced and tight-knit group dedicated to a disciplined and personalized approach. We respect the emphasis on systems and process characteristic of the larger organizations from which most of us have come, yet value the nimbleness and forward-thinking we have been able to establish in our more entrepreneurial environment. As a group, we value the diversity of opinions around the table and have worked to maintain an open communication structure. Our Investment Team expects excellence and seeks the highest standards. Our in-house ESG team leads the shareholder engagement initiatives that resonate with their passions. We share a firm-wide commitment to integrity and responsiveness to our clients' unique investment objectives. Boston Common is employee-owned and certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance (SOMWBA).
Our Name
Beginning in 1634, the Boston Common served as a common pasture for cattle grazing. As a public good, the Common was a space owned by no one but essential to all. We chose the name Boston Common because, like the Common of old, our work stands at the intersection of the economic and social lives of the community.
Carbon Neutrality
Boston Common has contracted with Las Gaviotas of the Marion Institute to offset its annual carbon emissions through sustainable reforestation in South America. http://www.marioninstitute.org/gaviotas
