Our ESG research process integrates information from disparate sources to form a holistic understanding of corporate performance. We raise the profile of our portfolios by pursuing companies with best-in-class ESG practices, screening out egregious violators, seeking out firms that are finding innovative solutions to the problems of their industries, and encouraging the firms we own to improve their practices. Over the years, we have built an extensive network of contacts at non-governmental organizations and shareholder activist groups that provide us with primary information on corporate activities in a wide range of locations.
In addition to comprehensive consideration of ESG factors, Boston Common also provides investment management for clients who wish to integrate customized elements of their social mission into the investment products. In these relationships, Boston Common fulfills its role by developing the knowledge and judgment necessary to pursue those interests, quantifying and overcoming the diversification and performance impact of screening, and working with clients to articulate their concerns to corporate management on issues of particular concern.
